Visual Arts

The Visual Art program at St Vincent de Paul primary school is designed to encourage and challenge students to achieve their artistic potential in an enjoyable and supportive environment. Students develop their creativity and imagination as well as refining their practical and fine motor skills. They learn to make choices when experimenting with materials, tools and techniques.

Throughout their time at St Vincent de Paul primary school students will get the opportunity to explore a wide variety of different art mediums such as drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, clay, sculpture, construction and textiles. Students learn to communicate through their art, respond to the artworks of others and gain appreciation from well known artists.

Students attend a two hour session every fortnight. This longer session allows students to immerse themselves in the whole process of creating art, reflecting on their skills and responding to art. It sets the arts program at St Vincent de Paul apart from other arts programs.

The art show, which takes place every second year is a celebration of the students’ art. Students and parents are involved in many aspects of preparing and setting up the show. The night itself creates excitement for the whole school community.
